Dores Gala - A fun day out with something for everyone.

Purpose

The Dores Gala was started in 1977 for the Queen’s jubilee. It raised funds for local groups and organisations. The Gala did not run for a number of years but was resurrected in 2004. It is organised and run voluntarily by local residents with the help of their friends and family.

Dores Gala

The Dores Gala Committee held its AGM on the 19th March 2008. The minimum number of committee members permitted by the Dores Gala's constitution is five. The number of persons who attended the AGM was below this number. Consequently, the Dores Gala is in abeyance until further notice. There will be no Dores Gala in 2008.

Dores Gala 2006

The Gala was held on Saturday, 2nd September 2006. It was a good day - even the weather behaved.

There were stalls by Ness Soaps and Highland Fairies. Other stalls had jewellery, cards and crafts, cake and candy. There a performance by an African drumming group. Other displays included a performance by Edith McPherson's Highland Dancers. A fancy dress parade was also held. The marquee held a bar and a tea shop.

A series of races and other contests were held for the younger visitors, suprvised by volunteers from nearby Active Schools. Events included a space hopper race, and field race.

Other attractions included the old stalwarts the 'Crazy Bike', 'Crazy Horse' and a local heritage display. A pipe band also performed at various times during the day.

Of course, the usual refreshments were also provided. A bar, a tea-tent, and a burger bar were provided, all manned by local people, Scouts and other volunteers. Other local people provided their own stalls.

A considerable number of tug-of-war teams competed. Once again, the team from Cawdor defeated the best Dores had to offer. Oh well - there is always the next time!

The conclusion of the day-time events was a raffle.

In the evening, a dance was held in the marquee, with music provided by popular local bands, Rhythm'n'Reel and Mystic Shoes. The dance went on until midnight.

This years Gala was more low-key than last years. Many have agreed however that the atmosphere at this year's gala was more relaxed and this made a refeshing change.
